“ My practice explores devotion, memory, spirituality, displacement, and humanity’s relationship to the Divine.

I make paintings about the things we cannot always see, but somehow know are there. A memory held in the body. A place we have left but still carry within us. A feeling of belonging to somewhere we can no longer reach. A presence felt in a landscape, a gesture, or a moment of stillness.

Having lived across different countries and cultures, and coming from Jamaican, European, Chinese, and West African ancestry, I have come to experience identity as something fluid - something gathered and carried rather than fixed. My paintings hold these fragments together. They bring different places, histories, memories, and ways of understanding the sacred into the same space.

Devotion is at the centre of this. I think of devotion as the act of turning our attention towards something beyond ourselves: remembering, listening, contemplating, making, or simply being present. Painting becomes a way of doing this. I begin without knowing exactly where the work will lead, allowing the materials, gestures, colours, and forms to reveal something gradually. The paintings are less about giving answers than creating a space in which questions can remain alive.

I work primarily with natural and organic materials - charcoaled fruit seeds, shells, precious stones, and pigments foraged from the landscape. These materials carry traces of the earth from which they come. They crack, dissolve, stain, accumulate, and transform. Their physical presence becomes part of the painting’s language, bringing the unseen back into contact with the tangible.

Influenced by Gutai, Shan shui painting, Surrealism, Caribbean Intuitive painting, and spiritual abstraction, my work moves between figuration and abstraction, between what can be recognised and what begins to disappear. Landscapes, bodies, gestures, and fragments of memory emerge and dissolve into one another. A painting might become a landscape, a body, a remembered place, or something that has no name at all.

I want the work to leave room for the viewer to wonder: What do we carry with us when we leave? Where does a memory live? Can a place remember us? Can the earth hold something of those who came before us? When does matter become spirit? And how might we recognise the sacred when we encounter it?

For me, painting is a way of staying with these questions. It is an act of attention, remembrance, and openness - a way of reaching toward something that may remain just beyond what we can see. ”
